Writing with its pronunciation is the obvious characteristic of English, it can lead us to use them(Listening, speaking, reading, writing even translating) with people easier, English's also a kind of language, it contains a lot of things,it's a unity too.So we can't dispart it constrainedly as something lying isolatedly(for example,Listening, speaking, reading, writing and so on), we either shouldn't stress that which is the most important one in it,
This is just a problem of sequence, linguists and language learners have been debating about it for many years, and the problem of sequence has been distinct gradually, we can feel it and know which one should be placed on the front.
The result's that we should place the listening and speaking first!
Louis Alexander who is the world-renowned linguist of English teaching and the editor of NEW CONCEPT ENGLISH .he is a co-author of advocating this fundamental idea of listening and speaking first. The learning sequence in the book is spelled out in the book to be as follows:
"nothing should be spoken before it has been heard"
"nothing should be read before it has been spoken "
"nothing should be written before it has been read"
Maybe it's a little bit difficult for us to grasp all of them immediately, but we can get the two sentence easliy: "nothing should be spoken before it has been heard" and " nothing should be written before it has been read", it has showed us something clearly: "Where there's reek there's heat", it also runs through my whole teaching thinking. Listening and speaking are more outstanding and straightforward than reading and writing in the communication of a kind of any languges, of course, we have to treat it with dialectical unification and in the round. but, my meaning is just about the sequence, the question of listening and speaking first, not saying that reading and writing are not important. They are all important.
